The Apology
Details
Jeonga Cha is haunted by ghosts, real and imagined, in this intergenerational story of an arrogant, pampered, and defiant South Korean matriarch who's intent on preventing the marriage of her illegitimate great granddaughter to her great grandnephew while hiding the fact that they're cousins. The secret she's trying to preserve is one of a chain reaction of secrets that would be disclosed, reaching back to the turn of the century, Japanese colonialism, and the Korean War. She's thwarted in her quest by her sisters and her aide, all of whom are ignorant of Jeonga's motives and have their own agenda in forcing her to meet her grandson who is researching a family history of his own. In her panic, Jeonga is thrust into the afterlife from which she seeks a second chance to make amends and head off a tragic curse that will devastate generations to come.
