Essential history of the indigenous people of North America in relation to America. This is not an indigenous peoples history related to their individual tribes. A difficult history to tell for many reasons, at least 800 distinct Native peoples inhabited most parts of North America speaking at least several hundred distinct languages which does not include many hundreds of smaller tribes. From language to culture covering the history is generally more simplified than the vastly more complex reality. Internationally known author and beloved University of Nebraska professor of Communication and Native American Studies Bruce E. Johansen, PhD who has written over 40 books on the subject uses his vast knowledge to carefully select facts to cover the essential history.
